Boer war/ww1 mounted officers private purchase water bottle complete with its leather strap and khaki covering.A very rare item these days,the leather strap has dog clips fitted so the waterbottle could be fitted to the Sam Brown belt or as part of the equipment fitted to a saddle,the leather strap does show age related wear and the dog clips have good aged colour to the brass.The khaki covering shows age and is in good condition with signs of use, the top of the water bottle has a patent number which has been double stamped so it is not clear but it does start with 158 which was used from 1890/91 but the last numbers after the six patent numbers is 17 which would suggest 1917,it also becomes a small cup once removed from the water bottle a very rare feature on this type of officers private purchase item.A very nice and rare item to find, please see the photographs for further detail.
