Description

German 1933 pattern SA dagger and scabbard with the rare Ernst Rohm full inscription intact in good used condition. The maker mark on the dagger is for F Dick which is a maker not often encountered and has a good reputation for build quality, the dagger also comes with its leather hanger and clip which is not marked and shows age related wear. The dagger shows age related wear and tear as you would expect with its condition still in good order, the pommel and cross guard show consistent age related colour with the wooden handle complete and free from any fractures in the wood but does show signs of use. The SA roundel is in good condition with its enamel finish still intact and the eagle and swastika set into the handle shows good crisp detail, the wooden handle has suffered a little shrinkage on the pommel and cross guard which is a age related. The top nut still looks in good shape with the district mark on the cross guard showing as SW which is for Sudwest, the blade of the dagger has a very good blade to cross guard fit which can be clearly seen in the photographs. The blade of the dagger is bright and clean with the usual scabbard scars and minor age related colour, the blade has very little cross grain showing which would suggest the blade has been cleaned all be it a very long time ago. The acid etched inscriptions are clear to see and have a good depth to them and with the full Rohm inscription still intact is a very rare item to find. After June 30th 1934 when Ernst Rohm and many of the SA leaders were executed or arrested in The Night of the Long Knives, an SS order was issued stating that the etching was to be removed from the blade or the dagger disposed of.If the Rohm Honour dagger was not modified or destroyed, severe punishment would be handed out to offending members, many SA and SS members had the name of Ernst Rohm ground off the blade which is the more common dagger seen with some having a partial Rohm inscribed dagger.
The scabbard still retains most of its original lacquered finish with age related wear showing the top and bottom nickel fittings are in place with all the screws still intact and in good condition. The lower nickle fitting has had a knock at some point in time this can be seen in the photographs and is a common issue found on such daggers.
