WW1 officers compass and case dated 1917 and in good working condition.The leather case has a retail mark for R Stafford 1917 with the war department stamp, it has supple leather and a nice brown colour finish and is complete with its shoulder strap still in place this can be seen in the photographs,the leather does show age related wear on the case and the leather shoulder strap with both being good condition.The case is named to Lieutenant Arthur Mallalieu who served with the Duke of Wellington’s West riding regiment in the 2nd/7th battalion who arrived in France in January 1917, a copy of the officers medal card will be included with the compass showing he won the war medal 1914-18 and the victory medal.The compass is maker marked and is in good working order and with some of its original finish intact,the makers details have been photographed and show the the date 1917 with the war department stamp above the makers mark, the compass has a good tight hinge but does not snap back onto the main body of the compass when closed, it does stays in place when closed.A very nice and rare item to find these days in this condition with matching dates and with the arrow stamp also on the leather case and the compass,please see the photographs for further detail.
